In 2022, Whitaker built a series of 12+ 100% savage based wall displays they would refer to as “Reflection Altars”. These “Altars” comprised of a wide range of natural matter, (salvaged wood, tiles, hardware, game pieces, and mirror) reframe trash as The Sacred. By building miniature, mirrored wall hangings Whitaker aims to emphasize how we assign value. If trash becomes a sacred space to display fine jewels, sentimental scraps, and the viewer (through a mirror), where do we draw the line of value? Is there more we’re missing out on as a result of America’s fast-paced culture of waste?
