PORTRAIT OF SELF (2018-2022)
"Portrait of Self" is the archive of two bodies of work, "Backscatter" and "As the Desert" witch both explores the artist's self as their ancestors and their environment, respectively.
BACKSCATTER (2018-2020)
"Backscatter" is a collection of print work created during O.L.U.B's time at Arizona State University. Through Lithography and a variety of other chemical processes O.L.U.B borrows images from previous generations to create self portraits as seen through the eyes of a younger self. "Backscatter" consists of confused, fuzzy but familiar the images. Drawing parallels from their mother's lived traumas and their own O.L.U.B uses these substitutes to grapple with the childlike confusion which comes with unpacking generational traumas a young adult. Looking to end cycles O.L.U.B used this body of work to call back to a time they feel remember but certainly do not.

AS THE DESERT (2018-2022)
"As The Desert" is a collection of work created with a mixed media approach to printmaking. Using Lithography, Textile, Fount Object and more O.L.U.B explores themselves as their environment. With reverence for the desert O.L.U.B borrows images from previous homes to create self portraits as landscape and object. Similar to the "Material Exploration" work images in "As The Desert" are juxtaposed with themselves and natural materials which speak for the artist. Seeing themselves as a chest, an adobe brick, that old water tower, an empty parking lot, a fire escape they once fell from, abandoned highways, a tool without it's purpose, quartz, backwash, lighting and linen all fill in for Noelle as subject.
